Fluoride in Water: Can we Bear the Load?

Fri 16th | 5:00pm - 6:00pm
Think tent

hosted by | Water Quality Australia Inc.
Water fluoridation, actively practiced in Melbourne and some of regional Victoria, is promoted as a dental health preventive measure. Due to the industrial source and nature of the fluoridation chemicals added to our water supply, it can equally be described as an industrial waste disposal technology, getting a free ride under the guise of a health program. A number of short presentations will be given by the speakers, with the workshop attendees asked to come up with their philosophical and technical responses to the material presented. The workshop will aim to come to some conclusion on whether fluoridation is a cause for social activism and more governmental accountability, or something to be accepted as the status quo. The headings under which it will be workshopped include: -Exactly what is the fluoride waste product used, and how toxic is it to the environment? -Given that there is risk in fluoride consumption for some people, why have we not yet found more targeted and fair ways of tackling dental health? -Is it reasonable that communities are given no say whatever on having their water supply used for fluoride medication delivery? -Can any urban gardening be considered organic when fluoridated tap water is used for watering?

David McRae and Philip Robertson
David McRae BSc (Hons), Grad Dip Human Services David has been working in health promotion in public health services for many years. With a medical sciences background, along with working in holistic healing programs for people with life-threatening illnesses, he has a special interest in toxic chemical exposure. He has published a number of articles on fluoride and water fluoridation, and has represented regional communities in their discussions on fluoridation with water and health authorities. In 2004 he was a co-founder of Water Quality Australia Inc. Philip Robertson ND, BSc Philip is the founder of Carmoora Clinic, one of the best-known natural therapies clinics in the Geelong region for 20 years. For a number of years he lectured in the Bachelor of Science natural therapies program at Victoria University. Following his treatment of a number of patients severely harmed by fluoride intake, Philip consulted leading dental and scientific experts on fluoride in Australia and around the world. He discovered that government fluoridation programs are not supported by some of the best brains in both dentistry and toxicology, and has worked tirelessly to raise awareness of this issue. Philip also operates a small organic farm.
