Since last year's Sustainable Living Festival, public awareness of climate change has grown almost exponentially. There is a clear desire for information that will motivate and inspire people to take action on this issue. This forum would holistically address the following '101'-style overview of the key developments/ highlights in the understanding of climate science over the past year (e.g. the Stern report), and what it means; summary of what this might mean for Melbourne and Victoria in terms of direct impacts and changes we can expect to see in our lives; summary of what this means in Australasia (e.g. climate refugees and impacts on development) and how we should respond as a community; Introduction of the new concept of living within a carbon budget, looking at proposals already put forward in the UK and supported by legislation for that country to live within a set 'budget' each year in terms of greenhouse gas emissions.
