Bob will give a talk and slide presentation covering genetic engineering and its impact, the monopoly control of food through patents and terminator genes, how GE threatens farm sustainability and food security, and sustainable food and fibre production systems. Louise will talk about the many ways in which people can avoid GE food and get actively involved in the GE campaign. The floor will then be opened up for questions and discussion.

Bob Phelps and Louise Sales
Bob Phelps is Executive Director of Gene Ethics, founded in 1988. He is an educator, environmental campaigner, policy analyst and commentator on new technologies and their products, with thirty years' experience in the Australian and global social change movements. He promotes public understanding and debate on the economic, environmental, social and ethical impacts of gene technology and its products. He was awarded a Federation Medal in recognition of his contribution to Australian society. Louise Sales is a Genetic Engineering (GE) Campaigner with Greenpeace. She has a Masters in Biodiversity and Conservation and was first alerted to the dangers of GE crops during the course of her studies. A former Director of Corporate Watch in the UK, she has been actively involved in grassroots campaigning against GE crops for the past 5 years.
