Meliki performs traditional music from cultures around the world on classical guitar. Much of the old rhythms is being recycled as new music sounds to the current generation reintroduced in electronic format or with new lyrics but has been around for centuries. Meliki has used that experience to expand into performing popular music in the world today singing with acoustic guitar accompaniment. Usually presented as high-level electronic music, she has brought it back to unplugged arrangements. Meliki has emerged her knowledge of traditional rhythms with contemporary song writing and creating original songs.
Meliki
Meliki sings pop, rock, country, blues and soul and fingerstyle guitar. Meliki twice won the Young Guitarist of the Year Award in the Classical/Flamenco section at the Frankston International Guitar Festival while studying classical guitar, bass and jazz piano at the Victorian College of the Arts. She started playing in contemporary groups in 2004 after performing previously as a solo classical guitarist and in jazz/latin bands. Originally singing-backing vocals, Meliki progressed to singing lead vocals. She regularly works as a session musician recording and backing new artists, composing music for film projects and continues to play world instrumentals on classical guitar.
