The project, Cycle for Sustainability, is inspired by Gandhi's philosophy to 'be the change you wish to see in the world'. We are a travelling showcase for sustainability, engaging and inspiring students and the broader community in issues and actions that lead to healthier, more fulfilling ways of living that we can all enjoy, long into the future. The interactive comical presentation called 'An Hour of Choices' looks at the choices we make between when we wake up and when we go to school or work. The performance aims to engage and inspire awareness on a variety of issues including water and land use, local and organic food choices, energy production, sustainable transport and fair trade. The message, relayed by different characters, is that our simple everyday actions can affect the world in positive or negative ways and we can be empowered through being conscious of these actions.

The education outreach program of the Sustainable Living Foundation, Cycle for Sustainability, has run two programs. The first in 2005 travelling from Brisbane to Hobart over 5 months, and the second travelling from Sydney to Hobart over 4 _ months in 2006. In total we have reached out to over 60 schools. We have performed the skit 'An Hour of Choices' to over 7000 students. This performance represents the hour between when we wake up and when we go to school or work and the choices that we can make during this time to live more sustainably. The main issues addressed are water and land use, local and organic food choices, energy production, sustainable transport and fair trade. We have also conducted many workshops with school students. These workshops have included topics on Ecological Footprint, Fairwear, Climate Change and Forest Ecosystems. We have travelled almost 8000km on pedal-powered transport. The team has come from varied backgrounds including doctors, recent university graduates, engineers, teachers and environmental campaigners.
