Under Thread' represents a selection of Art Quilts drawn from a diverse range of quilt artists. Showing the broad range of approaches and practices, the exhibition represent a small glimpse into the exrtremely diverse approaches to quiltmaking today. Largely made through necessity from recycled materials and by the use of skills aquired to a long tradition of hand crafting passed down the generations - Quilt making is steeped in long histories and traditions. The exhibition aims to show, how historical and contemporary elements form the basis of currrent practice, that has established Quilt making as a mature contemporary artform. Almost all quilt artists chose to focus on nature for inspiration and contemplation. 'Under Thread' Quilts are displayed at the BMW Edge, Federation Square during the 3 days of the festival.
