Bio
Hector Burton: President of the Maribyrnong Bicycle Users Group. This group lobbies for improved bicycle facilities within the city of Maribyrnong (Footscray) and organises weekend rides and events that involve cycling. All events utilise only bikes and sometimes trains; there is no need to use a car. We have cycled around French Island in November 06, and ridden in the Great Dividing Range in April 06. Hector himself does not own a car, and rides his bike to work.Janet Rice: Mayor of Maribyrnong 2006. Janet was the first Green Mayor for this city, and has been a committed cyclist for many years. When she gained the position of Mayor she eschewed the mayoral car and requested a mayoral bike instead. Recently she went on a study tour of different cities in North America and Europe to see how they integrate cycling and other forms of sustainable transport into their communities.

Description
If you've been interested in getting into cycling for fun or transport then your local Bicycle Users Group is a good place to start. Hector will speak about the role of BUGs within the cycling community drawing upon his personal experience as president of the Maribyrnong BUG (Mazza BUG). Janet whilst also a member of Mazza BUG was also the Mayor of Maribyrnong for 2006. She is very interested in promoting cycling as a form of sustainable transport and mid year went on an extensive study tour of many cities in Nth America and Europe to learn more about how to implement and encourage sustainable transport in Melbourne. Find out what other countries have done to promote cycling and walking in their cities! There are other ways to be.
