Freedom on Wheels - Bikes as Perfect Transport for Young Women

Hosted by

Name

Ruth Paterson

Bio

Ruth Paterson has enjoyed gliding around Melbourne on bicycles since she was at uni. Bikes give Ruth a great sense of freedom - particularly to move about town safely and independently late at night. Ruth sometimes switches her $60 city bike for her expensive 'toy' - a mountain bike. Ruth has studied, worked and played in Melbourne, Canberra, Canada, England and Pakistan and is currently a public servant with State Government. Ruth has recently been elected to the board of Bicycle Victoria where she hopes to contribute to getting more people cycling, more often. Ruth will be co-presenting this session with some young(er) women who enjoy riding around town.

Description

Join young women who ride around town – to school, uni, and work, to parties and pubs, to shop, meet friends and simply to ride; be inspired and have your questions answered. What should you look for in a ‘city’ bike? How can you get riding cheaply? What do you need to have? How do you find your way around? How do you be safe? How do you preven theft? Ruth and friends will share their tips and tricks and answer your questions.
