Description

The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) will host a cooking demonstration in which an ASRC Catering staff member will prepare food from their homeland. They will share some of their stories about leaving their homeland, their experience and life in Australia and the role the ASRC has played in helping them create a new life. ASRC Catering is a community development initiative with a focus on strengthening communities and assisting individuals, and the ASRC as a whole, to be sustainable. This demonstration and talk will explore how community and culture can be maintained and sustained through food. Its aim is to provide the audience with an understanding of the difficulties asylum seekers and refugees face in Australia, what the ASRC is doing to help, and how we can work together to create sustainable and caring communities.
