"I bought a largish plastic tub to stand in when I shower. The water I catch I decant into a bucket and use that to flush the toilet or on the garden. A good trick is to use it in the wash cycle of the machine, which has been hooked up for grey water recycling using the hoses that are available at most department/hardware stores - so you get to use the water to wash yourself, wash your clothes and water the garden.

"I take the bus to work in the morning and the train home at night. With the cost of petrol at an all time high I save as much as fifty dollars per week that I can put towards the cost of building my energy effifficent house. But the best result I have had has been the number of new friends that I look forward to seeing. In the afternoon I can have a twenty minute power nap on the train and wake up refreshed to take on the job of motherhood.
