The Edge
hosted by | Victoria Naturally Alliance
This summer's horrendous fires impact on all of us, including the thoursands of native plant and animal species found in Victoria. This forum explores how Victorians can work together, in the face of climate change, to help protect our precious plants and animals.Dr Ian McPhail, Victoria’s Commissioner for Environmental Sustainability will talk about the results and recommendations from the 2008 Victorian State of the Environment Report. It is clear from the report that much more needs to be done if we are to save Victoria’s biodiversity. Hedley Thomson, CEO of the Ballarat Environment Network will talk about inspiring examples of conservation in the Ballarat region, showing what can and is being done by everyday people caring for our natural environment. Matt Ruchel, Executive Director of the Victorian National Parks Association will talk about what needs to be done across the state to stem the loss of our precious animals and plants and how you can help.
The Victoria Naturally Alliance of nine leading environment groups has been created to help restore the health of Victoria’s biodiversity, which after years of land clearance and habitat fragmentation is in a state of crisis. See www.victorianaturally.org.au for more on the alliance’s work.
