An HRV whole home ventilation system uses solar energy for residential space heating without the need for solar panels, all for the running cost of a light-globe which is approximately 8 - 10 cents per 24 hour day.

The two key benefits HRV delivers to homes and their occupants is energy efficient/low emissions heating/cooling and unparalleled domestic indoor air quality.

HRV can achieve a 50% reduction in heating/cooling requirements and 13% reduction in total household GHG emissions. If extrapolated to all households in Victoria, this could result in a reduction of up to 2 million tonnes of GHG, and a cost saving between $260 - 940 million per year. Dave will do a demonstration of how the HRV works and launch a new innovation at SLF 2009.

Dave Kennedy

With a background in sports science and coaching at Queensland State and then National level, Dave became involved with HRV in New Zealand in 2005 with an interest in the health benefits the system brings asthmatics and allergy sufferers. HRV became New Zealand's fastest growing company in 2006 according to Deloitte.

The opportunity to set up HRV in Australia was presented in 2006, and after meeting with several State Governments, Dave choose Victoria for its progressive government policies regarding sustainability and climatic conditions which are conducive to harvesting solar generated heat from roof spaces in winter. Public interest in Victoria to learn about innovative ways to be energy efficient led to the set up of the National Head Office for Australia in Oakleigh South. HRV grew to 5 offices in Melbourne and 45 staff by the end of 2008 with plans for 6 more offices in '09 and expansion inter-state.

With over 1500 installations in 2 years, Dave and his team have proven that there is tremendous interest from the general public to take pragmatic action without waiting for government guidance.

HRV is projected to install 100 systems per day within the next 2 years into homes with owners who see the common sense in making use of an abundant source of unused renewable energy. Dave is proud to be part of a solution in the broader sense contributing to:

* The sustainability of our environment
* Introducing new innovations in energy efficiency
* The new economy by creating many new employment opportunities, and finally;
* To the health of families.
