hosted by | Debate Association of Victoria

The Debating Association of Victoria (DAV) will be assisting in the organisation of two debates to be held on education day. Each debate will consist of six secondary school students, three from each school, debating issues which are in line with this year’s Festival Theme of Sustainability – Make it your Sport.

Each team will be allocated an amount of time to state their case; rebut; and conclude their arguments. At the conclusion of both sides’ arguments, a panel of adjudicators will determine and announce the result of the debate.

The DAV will be present at the debate to ensure that the competition is a fair, exciting and competitive one!

Secondary School Students from Clonard College and Sacred Heart College

The debaters will consist of students ranging from years 8 – 11. Selected from four different schools from across the State, and representing both private and public schools, these students are currently in their respective schools’ debating teams.

In line with other events run by the Debating Association of Victoria (DAV), adjudicators for this level of debate are selected from tertiary institutions who have already had experience in adjudicating other debates run by the DAV.

Staff from the DAV will also be in attendance to assist in managing the debates. They will bring with them plenty of experience in managing these kinds of debates and will ensure that the event is an enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

The DAV is the peak debating body in Victoria, with a large membership of skilled debaters, adjudicators and debating trainers. Our mission is to facilitate debating in Victoria, as it provides a structured means to discuss and analyse issues of public importance, of benefit to the community and the individuals who participate in it.
