River Stage
Simon Fraser has drummed his hair out for three decades. Starting on plastic drum kits and pots n’ pans, he has traversed a myriad of strikes and found his passion in West African rhythms. Through the years 10 African musical odysseys have seen him collaborate with some of the region's great percussionists. His love and knowledge of rhythm translate to his teaching where he focuses on rapid improvement, honouring tradition and having fun. As a performer, Simon is energetic and dynamic playing homage to all those he has learnt from in his extensive travels. As a teacher Simon is patient and enthusiastic with an amazing ability to get even the most musically challenged playing along to the beat.
We will begin the workshop with a short performance followed by an interactive drum lesson. The lesson will include a warm up with simple body percussion, some basic drum technique, simple African chants and then work on a fully arranged African piece. Drums and percussion instruments provided. All welcome!
