Lady Grey began with singer songwriter Lizanne Friebel, keen to expand repertoire and perform. The initial six song demo enabled Lady Grey a place to compete in the 2006 PBS FM Festival of Song Competition. Their laid back blues folk tunes saw them sail into the grand final. Ever since Lady Grey has been playing gigs regularly at venues including Wesley Anne, Edinburgh Castle, the Empress and CERES. Of Wifely Constitution has been in the making since Lady Grey's self-titled ep in 2006. The title was conceived whilst Lizanne was attending an inspiring WOMADelaide Festival in 2007. The song soon followed, taking out first place in The Goof Folk Song Competition. The prizes which included studio recording time set in motion this new stunning mini-album recording. The songs float between blues, folk and country, possessing a pop sensibility. Lyrics are rarely written with such a blend of soul and smarts. With the sugar of blues ladies, classic and contemporary, Nina Simone and Chan Marshall, Lizanne leads with a voice of earthy otherworldiness. The musicianship sensibilities of Jacob Cole, Catherins Leslie, Issie Trollope and Ralf Rehak (of Machine Translations) combine to make each song unique. Recorded and mixed by Buzz Bahlaw and mastered by Jack the Bear, Of Wifely Consitution is Lady Grey's strongest release to date and is worthy of some serious listening and hype.
