“Belly Dance”, “Raqs Sharqi”, or “Middle Eastern Dance” is a fun and creative dating back thousands of years and there are an infinite number of styles to explore, offering unlimited potential for expression and enjoyment by people from all walks of life. Andrea Makris is one of Melbourne's most highly reputed Belly dancers and the Managing Director of arts organisation, Underbelly. Her style reflects the passion of her Mediterranean heritage and is delivered in a way that authentically represents the dance traditions of the Middle East while appealing to contemporary Australian audiences. A polished dancer with keen interest in the ethnography of the dance styles she performs, Andrea is a regular performer and workshop presenter at community festivals, arts shows and corporate events. She has toured the USA, Ireland and regional Victoria and has studied and taught in Australia and abroad since 1999.
