Bollywood is the name given to the Mumbai-based Hindi language film industry in India and is considered to be the largest in the world in terms of number of films produced. The term Bollywood was created by combining Bombay (now called Mumbai) and "Hollywood". These films are usually musicals and filled with melodrama. The instructor will first do a demo and proceed to teach a routine to have the group dancing like the film stars by the end. All you need is an open mind and to let your imagination take over! Please make sure you have space around you to move comfortably and send the little kids to the front so that they are able to watch and dance also.

Jhoom-Bollywood Dance Company continues the legacy of Jhanak Dance Company, its predecessor, which was the first of its kind to promote and celebrate Bollywood culture and colour through dance in Melbourne, Australia. Jhanak classes began in March 2005 and in just over 2 years was featured all the major print media (eg The Age, The Australian and Herald Sun ) as well as in shows such as:

• 9AM with David & Kim,
• The Deepend (ABC Radio National),
• ABC News,
• 3AW,
• SBS Radio 1224AM – World Views,
• Australian Cricket Board News (Ch10 evening news & Sports Tonight, ABC News, Sky News, Star India TV).

At Jhoom Bollywood classes and performances, they believe Bollywood melts all boundaries and fuses many dance styles and cultures together - the aim is to release the Bollywood star within you! Weekly Classes began Feb 2008. They have already performed at

• Buddha’s Day Festival,
• Mind Body and Spirit Festival,
• Arts Centre Spice Trail (pre Anoushka Shankar Concert)
