Storytelling is how we frame and contextualise our experiences and the way in which we share the tales of our lives, history and culture. Listening, speaking and memory skills are developed through storytelling. Come along and be enthralled by JB, Gael, Jackie and Matteo as they weave stories of insight around the environment and social changes.

JB, Gael, Jackie and Matteo

Jackie Kerin’s passion for language and story enthrals children and adults. Jackie is a storyteller in its most traditional form. After graduating from the National Institute of Dramatic Art in the ‘70s, she worked in theatre, film and television and has a Bachelor of Education. Jackie has won several short story awards and the 2002 Port Fairy Festival Storytelling Award.

June Barnes-Rowley, known as jb, has always been a storyteller. Jb is founder of swag of yarns, Australia’s National Storytelling Magazine, a member of The Storytelling Guild of Australia (Vic. Branch) and is featured on the guild’s audiotape, Mystery and Mayhem.

The right story for the right person at the right time – this could be Gael Cresp’s mission statement. Her picture books The Biography of Gilbert Alexander Pig (illustrated by David Cox, Benchmark/ Cygnet, 1999) and Fish for Breakfast (illustrated by Anna Pignataro, A Window Hollow Book, Benchmark, 2002) began life as told stories and now live on in magnificently illustrated and written tales.

Matteo is entertaining, enlightening and inspiring. Matteo was the original creator of Story Adventures with the Summer Fun in the Parks program. He has travelled with his tales, touring the East Coast of Australia and the U.K. Feedback suggests that people remember his work for years after. His stories transport listeners to the places he describes.
