The workshop is something that starts from a simple walking rhythm and grows and grows. As participants are invited to join in on various instruments and rhythms designed to suit varying age and skill levels, complex layers are added and a group language is developed. It is the energy and excitement of a samba bateria that makes it a fun event for both participants and onlookers (even though those who do not choose to pick up an instrument are enthusiasticly encouraged to clap, sing, follow dance steps or a combination of the three)

The members conducting the workshop are members of a performing group called Tumbarumba that emerged from a local Samba School . They are a 5 piece percussion group playing original music based on the rhythms of Brazil infused with musical influences such as reggae, hip hop , Cuban and African.
