Carbon Neutrality for Business: A strategy for change

Fri 15th February 08 | 2:00pm - 3:00pm
Design tent

hosted by | Carbon Balance Consulting
Carbon Balance Consulting believes Carbon neutrality if done well can be an example of balancing the effects business has on the environment and can exert an economic pressure for business to reduce their carbon emissions. Understanding what it means when a business claims its ‘Carbon Neutral’ and how a company achieve this is the difference between a credible claim and a weak one. How does a company achieve this and what’s involved? With vision and foresight businesses can strategise a response to climate change that is a powerful message that engages customers and staff and benefits the environment. Making sure the message has integrity and transparency is the key to a robust Carbon Neutral claim. This talk is ideal for those investigating Carbon Neutrality and the benefits it can bring and for consumers to identify the integrity of claims in the marketplace. This presentation will aim to identify standards and methods in place for carbon auditing and accounting and explain a role Carbon Offsets can play.

Carbon Balance Consulting
Steve Andrew is the principal consultant for Carbon Balance Consulting a business he developed to assist organisations in developing climate change responses. His business has developed tools and strategies for business to embrace a carbon economy, not fear one. His previous business was running an ecotourism business for 10 years in Victoria and explaining and interpreting the landscape and environment to international travellers. He first engaged his own company to offset its emissions and then realised that climate change was a direction he felt he had to get involved in and sold the tourism business to set up Carbon Balance Consulting. Steven brings to his talks a passion and sense of urgency about understanding and identifying what changes we need to make in order to minimise serious climate change.
