Emma Nickson started teaching at Melbourne University, before returning to England to complete a biological science degree, majoring in botany and ecology. She then returned to Melbourne, with husband Patrick, in 2000 where they founded a successful graphic design company. Their first son Hugo was born in 2003, followed by Casper in 2005 and Archie in 2006.
Whilst she watched Hugo play outside, Emma decided to start a vegetable garden. She had vague notions of her sons playing happily while she planted, weeded and watered in peace. However, they immediately wanted to help, which was initially frustrating but Emma could see how much they loved it and encouraged their enthusiasm. It was during many hours in the garden with her children that the passion to create 'Sprouts - Growing Gardeners' was ignited.
Children need to spend time with people they love and gardening together is the perfect opportunity. Emma believes we could all benefit from growing some of our own produce and taking responsibility for our environment. Emma is hoping to create this club for children and their carers, and give some inspiration for families to start a garden together and see how much fun they can have.
