Caterers

Catering is an important aspect of most events. When selecting a suitable caterer for an event there are a number of areas to consider including menu options, serving styles and packaging.

In creating a sustainable event, use caterers who focus on providing food that addresses a range of sustainability factors. These can include foods that are:

  • locally sourced - to reduce carbon emissions from transport milesĀ
  • in-season organic - to avoid harmful pesticides
  • fair trade accredited - to support workers' rights
  • vegetarian or vegan - to reduce energy and water use from resource-intensive livestock farming

In addition to focusing on menu options, the way food is served should also be considered. Buffets, allocated portions and other serving options should be assessed to determine which option is the least likely to result in leftover food.
