This workshop will provide a safe space for people to reflect on and express their feelings about the 2019/20 bushfires and climate change more broadly.

The workshop – held via Zoom – will focus on fostering emotional awareness and self-care in response to the variety of intense feelings and experiences these events can generate.

It will also include a storytelling activity, and participants will have the opportunity to publish their stories on the FireFeels website.

This event is a collaboration between FireFeels, Psychology for a Safe Climate, Environment Victoria, and Bushfire Survivors for Climate Action.

Founded in 2010 by psychologist Carol Ride, Psychology for a Safe Climate (PSC) is a Melbourne-based not-for-profit organisation that formed to contribute psychological understanding to the challenges and difficulties of engagement with climate change. Through workshops, presentations, and publications, PSC helps increase psychological understanding in the community and offers psychological support and self-care to those working as activists, researchers, scientists, or policymakers. PSC’s current priority is in engaging with more psychologists and counsellors to grow awareness and capacity to contribute support in their work and in the community. PSC acknowledges the need for strong and urgent action on climate, and through the above contributions hopes that people will feel supported and empowered to act, rather than reacting or withdrawing in despair. You can learn more about PSC’s work here.
