Join the Friends of Skeleton Creek and the Hobsons Bay Conservation Rangers at the picturesque Emu Foot Grasslands for some important watering and weeding of this reserve.

Grasslands are critically endangered ecosystems in western Melbourne so it is important to take care of the reserves that occur in Hobsons Bay.

This event is aimed at caring for our critically endangered ecosystems and enhancing the remnant Western plains volcanic grasslands.

FACILITATORS

Friends of Skeleton Creek are a family-friendly group who get together on a monthly basis with local council conservation rangers to put back indigenous plants or to do maintenance. The Friends of Skeleton Creek was initially formed in 1991 by a group of local people who wanted something done to protect and revegetate the creek environment. The group’s planting activities, in cooperation with Melbourne Water and the local councils, are making a noticeable difference to the creek and the natural environment – such as improved water quality, a seed source for indigenous plants, and a food source for birds and insects – but this conservation work needs to be sustained with the helping hands of volunteers.
