This is an all ages and abilities and family-friendly event! It is a casual ride with many stops! All are welcome!
Come along on an active transport group ride visiting local environmental initiatives in the City of Maribyrnong.
Join BikeWest, Maribyrnong Councillors, and local champions for a tour of the municipality celebrating the Council’s big bike budget and the many other innovative climate and environment initiatives happening in the inner west.
A fun day out riding bikes around Maribyrnong exploring some of the great local initiatives and talking about the importance of good active transport infrastructure to reduce emissions and support happier and healthier places and people.
The tour will circumnavigate the inner west and stop at a few key local sustainability initiatives including:
– Exemplar nature strip gardens
– Local cycling skills (Hanson Res) and activity spaces (Quarry Park)
– Good and bad infrastructure
– Other local environmental highlights include Footscray College Farm, the Victoria University green roof, and the Community Bike Hub.

Start with breakfast and a coffee in Seddon prior to the event. The ride leaves at 10am from Vigo Street in Seddon. And then finish with a drink and pizza in Footscray!
The Green Guerillas will provide a presentation on the value of nature strip planting as habitat and contributors to our urban ecosystems, the urban heat island, and community benefits of green convivial streets.
Maribyrnong Councillors will talk about the recreational cycling project underway in the area and the new bike budget program.
John Symons, president of BikeWest will present the economic and social value of cycling infrastructure when it is designed to support diverse participation. Active transport infrastructure helps us address the global sustainability goals and meet the needs of our community.
There will also be a Community Bike Hub discussion on the work they do in bike repair and recovery, circular economy, and social enterprise.
