The market failures of Australia’s current housing paradigm are not only denying property ownership for an increasing section of the population but are also not delivering community and liveability outcomes that consumers and the wider community want. Cohousing provides opportunities to accommodate population growth and ageing in place in a sustainable manner that benefits the environmental, social and economic outcomes being sought by individuals, communities and policymakers.

Cohousing Australia promotes collective models of housing, housing diversity and housing choice. This includes supporting them being fully embedded in the legal, planning, regulatory and financial systems. Our guest speakers will share knowledge of the emerging models that make cohousing the success it is today. Sector experts and speakers with lived experience will discuss the planning processes that enable cohousing projects, including the legal and financial models that can be used to mitigate risk and build trust. They will demonstrate how cohousing fosters diversity and reaps both social and economic outcomes.
