What can you do about it?
Choose less salt
When you next buy your detergent, choose one with a low salt content. A small
amount of salts will help to soften the water and disperse the detergent, but
it is often added simply to bulk out' the contents!
- Liquid detergents generally contain far less salt than powdered detergents.
- Concentrated powdered detergents usually contain less salts than non-concentrated powdered detergents.
- To view the results of tests conducted in 1999 regarding the levels of sodium
salts and phsphates in many leading detergent brands, go to www.lanfaxlabs.com.au
Note! An updated and more comprehensive list of results should be available on the Low Salt Cleaning Challenge website mid 2005.

Use less salt
Take a look at the recommendations on the side of your detergent container.
The quantity of detergent you should use will depend on the size of the load
and how dirty it is. You will be amazed at how much you can save by measuring
instead of guessing!
More bubbles do not mean that the detergent will work any better! | info |
- Make sure you keep a measuring cup or scoop with your detergent container.
- Read the label and measure carefully instead of guessing.
- 1/3 less (at least) than the recommended amount when your washing is only
lightly soiled.
