The City of Port Phillip is located on the northern shore of Port Phillip Bay, south of the Melbourne city centre. In 2007 The City of Port Phillip released its 'Towards Zero - Sustainable Environment Strategy'. The strategy commits the City of Port Phillip to achieving and sustaining: zero greenhouse gas emissions in council operations and services by 2020; A 50% reduction in per capita greenhouse gas emissions by 2020 (based on 2006 levels); A 70% reduction in Council's potable water use by 2020 (based on 2000 levels); A 50% reduction in per capita community potable water use by 2020 (based on 2001 levels). Additinally the City of Port Phillip is commited to minimising waste to landfill, reducing pollution and contamination of natural systems and improving sustainable transport options.
