We've heard a lot about desalination and pipelines, but what about the other viable alternatives to Victoria's water woes?
This panel discussion will focus on sustainable water supply options for Melbourne, including storm water harvesting, recycled water and rainwater tanks.
Panelists include Prof. Peter Coombes, Belinda Hatt and Kelly O'Shanassy.
Prof. Peter Coombes from the University of Newcastle, is a researcher in the area of rainwater quality. Prof Coombes has identified the potential for rainwater to be utilised far more extensively than many government regulators are recommending.
Belinda Hatt from Monash University, was the lead author of the first major review of integrated storm water treatment and harvesting in Australia.
Kelly O'Shanassy, CEO of Environment Victoria (EV), recently published the report - Water Security, Healthy Rivers: EV's vision for Melbourne. Kelly was the author of Victoria’s Framework for Environmental Sustainability and is a directory of Waterkeepers Australia.
