Permaculture is a design system for sustainable human settlement of this planet. It is a philosophical framework, a way of thinking and making decisions in the interests of a sustainable future for all. Permaculture is not gardening. It is not organic farming. It is not really especially related to plants at all. But if we remember that humans are just one of the many species of animals on the planet and that feeding ourselves is part of survival, then clearly plants and farming are part of sustaining human settlement.

To guide our everyday thinking and actions, there are three simple ethical principles of Permaculture: | Earth Care | People Care | Fair Share | Care of the Earth

We have already trashed a large part of the planet. If we now focus on rebuilding the “natural capital” (the resources, species, energy, existing products, infrastructure and ideas), it will be available to future generations. Caring for the Earth is fundamental to every decision every day. Care of the People War never wins. We need to look after ourselves and each other since we cannot be a sustainable species in a climate of threat. Redistribution of surplus and limits to growth (Fair Share) There is enough here for all of us, but only if we avoid wasting surplus, count everyone as equal, and limit and monitor our consumption.

This is a new area with great educational and social significance: Sustainability through accredited courses in Permaculture. These courses provide students with the skills training to operate in an independent manner in industry.

The Certificate IV focuses on training students seeking supervisory roles on rural and urban properties, on community Permaculture projects and for those seeking to become Permaculture designers / advisors. [3 semesters]

The Diploma provides students with the skills needed to work as project managers / supervisors in areas such as community development projects including those based in indigenous communities, overseas developing nations, water & urban land management & retro fitting. [4 semesters]
