Riparian zones – the highly fertile land adjoining waterways – are biodiversity hotspots, and with healthy native habitat cover they can provide multiple benefits including better water quality, erosion protection, carbon sequestration, and habitat corridors for wildlife.
However, riparian zones in Victoria have been extensively cleared and their condition is moderate to poor across much of the state. The range of differing ownership and management regimes makes this a legally and historically complex area.
This seminar will help you gain insight into some of these complexities and the tremendous conservation opportunities offered by riparian land.
