On Sunday 19 October the new Grassland Education Centre at Evans Street Wildflower Grassland in Sunbury will officially open. To celebrate, a Wildflower Walk and Talk will run from 10am until 12.30pm.

The Education centre is the culmination of many months of hard work by Council, the Evans Street Advisory Committee and members of the Friends of Evans Street Grassland. The Centre will cater for community groups and provides a local meeting space adjacent to this unique grassland. Landscaping around the centre will provide a further resource, providing the opportunity to see grassland plants up close.

Grasslands were once one of the dominant vegetation types in Hume, but their extent has been drastically reduced to just a few small patches. They are an exceptionally diverse vegetation type, supporting countless species of wild-flowers, many of which are now endangered in Victoria. Some of these rare species are conserved at Evans Street grassland.

Everyone is welcome to join in the fun, participate in the activities, and see the beauty of a local grassland in spring! For further information, please contact Council’s Conservation Planner, on 9205 2200.
