You will develop an understanding and appreciation for the use of unfired earth as a building material. This will incorporate a brief history of earth construction as well as current design principles and technologies. You will learn how to create healthy and energy efficient earth buildings with climate responsive design. This will enable you to resource suitable materials and produce mudbricks and achieve practical skills in the art of cob building. This is a hands on workshop so as well enlightening our minds you will get our hands and feet dirty. The practical sessions will unlock the materials' secrets, magic qualities and reveal its simple beauty. Learning Outcomes: - Recognition of earth building traditions from Australia around the World - Appreciation of the benefits and qualities of earth as a Green Building material. - Knowledge of how to use earth in appropriate climate responsive design - Practical hands on skills in selecting and testing suitable material, mixing cob material, making cobs and building a cob wall. Facilitators Peter Hickson: is a builder who specialises in earth building in the Shoalhaven area. Peter has completed over fifty earth projects in the 25 years he has been working with earth. He has been conducting earth building workshops for 9 years, has written many articles and presented papers on earth building. He has completed 3 assignments to the Philippines introducing Earth Building Technology. He is moving into the area of earth building education and consultancy. He has served for many years on the committee of the Earth Building Association of Australia and is currently Vice President of EBAA.
