2008 is a milestone for the human race. Next year more than half the world’s population (some 3.3 billion people) will live in cities. By 2030 that number is expected to have blown out to almost 5 billion. According to the UN report “The State of the World Population 2007”, the future quality of how well we live in these mega-cities depends on decisions being made now.

Malcolm is involved in some of the highest profile contemporary projects on urbanism including:
• The master planning for the 8,400ha Dongtan Eco-City project in Shanghai.
• The regeneration of the urban Stratford Rail Lands associated with the London Channel Tunnel Link.
Other experience includes a variety of mixed use developments in London and membership of the Williams Committee advising on a review of housing needs in the Thames gateway. Malcolm joined Arup after completing his Masters degree in Architecture at Yale University. He previously gained wide experience in Australia on a wide range of buildings projects.
