Take part in The Big Switch Off on October 6th at 8pm. Switch off your electricity and gas supply to your house, don't drive your car or motorbike, and don't use battery powered devices for 24 hours. Create no greenhouse gas emissions for a full day. We challenge you. Over the 24 hours, an average household will save around 40kg of greenhouse gases - that's 800 black balloons worth. Throughout the day, you'll realise the extent of your reliance on fossil fuels. You may find your own ways of reducing this reliance, or re-discover activities that have no associated emissions.
