Through passion and necessity SLF has evolved over a number of years into a visionary and collaborative organisation.
At the end of the last century a number of individuals, who had been working on complementary projects in Queensland and Victoria, joined forces to form a small group which became responsible for the emergence of the Sustainable Living Foundation in the year 2000. Working with the eminent and pivotal community event – a ‘Renewable Energy and Sustainable Living Fair’, the third of its kind – they catalysed and consolidated the community interest and the commitment of key people who wished to fill the vacuum created by a lack of government leadership.
The absence of significant political leadership being demonstrated at state or federal levels, the lack of political vision, and the abandonment (by the Governments of that time) of the existing Environmental Non Government Organisations (ENGOs), all prompted action. The identified need was for a ‘positive, solution oriented’ organisation that would promote sustainable living and effectively engage the wider community, and thus the early identity of SLF was formed.
Over the years SLF has been working at developing a range of major platforms and today facilitates many projects and initiatives covering a wide range of areas relating to sustainability both locally and nationally.
