This 4.6km Deep Time Walk is a transformative journey, led by Jess Fairfax, Werribee River Association Sustainability Officer, that guides people through the 4.6 billion years of Earth history. The distance walked is used to explore the vast time scales and developments of our planet. This is an immersive learning experience designed to encourage further thinking, emotional connection, positive action, and advocacy for a regenerative Earth.
The walk can take up to three hours.
The philosophy of the walk is grounded in Deep Ecology. It is about connecting deeply with our local natural environment, understanding how we got to where we are today, the delicate balance that is required for life on earth, and the collective and collaborative action required to deal with the climate crisis.

The Werribee River Association is a growing community environmental organisation that is working with a growing and diverse community, particularly in education and engagement, to support communities to connect and protect the waterways of the west. The Werribee River Association began in 1981, led by a group of vocal community members who were concerned about the degradation of the Werribee River. We have now grown into a small team of professionals, supported by hundreds of members and volunteers, and dozens of partners and stakeholders. We work with the land and water managers to help build the biodiversity of the waterway ecosystem, and to support the iconic platypus – our emblem, featured in our logo.
